Analogue Mega Sg + MegaSD = Sega Retro All-In-One (AIO)
kdubmods posted an article in Hacking Resources
For the dedicated old school gamers out there--that somehow may not already know--there appears to be a winning (albeit expensive) all-in-one updated hardware combo for gaming on Sega Genesis/Mega Drive/CD consoles: 1) Analogue Mega Sg - https://www.analogue.co/mega-sg 2) Terraonion MegaSD - https://terraonion.com/en/producto/megasd/ So, no CD support required, get the old school console look and feel, and better graphics. -
From the article... https://hackaday.com/2021/01/24/physically-huge-sd-card-technically-has-some-benefits/ SD cards were developed and released just before the turn of the millenium. Since then, we’ve seen smaller formats, miniSD and microSD, become popular for portable devices. However, sometimes bigger is better. [Useless Mod] dared to dream that dream, and put together a (physically) gigantic SD card. In card is a full 10x scale reproduction of a SanDisk Extreme Pro SD card, complete with packaging, too. Built out of layers of laser cut MDF, it’s spray painted and given a high-quality label to complete the effect. The write protect slider instead serves in this case as a latch to open the assembly. Inside, there’s a simple regular SD card slot, wired up to the bigger card’s giant contacts made with copper tape. These interface with an huge 10x scale SD card slot, which acts as an adapter, allowing the giant SD to be used with regular hardware like cameras. The giant SD might seem silly, but it has plenty of useful features. There’s flashing LEDs behind the label that make it easy to find if you drop it, along with an Apple Watch hidden inside that means it can be located using the Find My iPhone service. We’d have loved if it featured a RAID array full of 10 or more SD cards, as well, just to justify its enormous size. That said, [Useless Mod] points out that it’s big enough to keep a DSLR dry in a rainstorm when fitted to the hotshoe, so there’s that. It’s a fun build, not a serious one, but one that we enjoyed on its merits. We suspect that, regardless of the card inside, you’ll have little luck recording at 4K with such long wire lengths in play. If you’ve ever had more normal compatability problems with the format, consider that it could be size causing your issues. Video after the break. physically_large_sd_card.webp

Version Prototype

Based off the NBA Basketball 2018 game hack, so it's primarily a roster update only (as of 01/31/2021)--with COVID-19 still hindering the situation. This is a fully functional game, but I consider it a beta/prototype because: missing 3 teams--including the Toronto Raptors! (sorry, I'm not currently fluent in ROM hacking enough to extend this game from 27 teams to 30 teams) missing 2 conferences (same; don't know how to hack this yet) updated player stats, but don't fully understand the player editor at the moment (though I have a good feel for it) -
If you find any bugs or defects, let us know here. Thanks!

Version Rev C

This is a revised (or updated) version of NBA Live '96 for Sega Genesis, using the Season Start date of 11/03/1995. This was done to better understand the internals of data usage (player name, attributes, rankings, etc.) and game mechanisms. Additionally, I've included some additional (hacked) features: add custom team & logo for 1996 USA Basketball Team (a.k.a. Dream Team II) add (hidden) missing legends to complete the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History as of 10/29/1996 add custom Rookies Team, with default players from 1995 All-Rookie Teams add custom Sophomores Team, with default players from 1994 All-Rookie Teams That being said, this is how the game should have been released! 1996 USA Basketball (Dream Team II) Hack: One of the "custom" teams in the game was hacked and given the 1996 USA Basketball logo and Dream Team roster via the "New Orleans Pelicans" hack: David Robinson Charles Barkley Scottie Pippen Reggie Miller Anfernee Hardaway Hakeem Olajuwon Karl Malone Grant Hill Rich Mitchmond John Stockton Shaquille O'Neal Gary Payton Please see "Instructions to play with 1996 Dream Team" below for details. Full List of Hidden 50 Greatest NBA Legends: In addition to the 27 Hidden NBA Legends included in the original game, I have added the remaining players to officially complete the list of 50 Greatest NBA Legends, as of 1996. Keep in mind some of those players were active in 1996, so they were not hidden and already listed on an existing roster. When prompted about how to handle the Expansion Draft, select Draft Both Teams. Press Start to forfeit the draft (and select Yes to verify), but make note of the correct Toronto roster. Shortly after that, you'll receive a message about Vancouver, and then a black screen internal error message similar to this: Sega Library Internal Error allocvram failed! memo tot totd=-13120anteal u Power it off, restart the game, and begin to setup Dream Team via Roster Setup >> Trade Players. NOTE: Toronto and Memphis should already have their correct rosters, and if you're playing with the older Rev A or B, you're done--no more steps! Next, select the *last player* at the end of each bench--from ATL to LAL (but *skip* CLE)--and trade them to the Free Agents list. NOTE: You should end up with 13 players ready to use for the 1996 Dream Team roster e.g. Move "David Robinson" from ATL roster to FA list Then, setup an Exhibition game, and select the custom team Dream Team (previously known as "Stealers"). Finally, when prompted, start selecting the recently added players from the Free Agents list to the Dream Team roster. This is basketball at the professional level. Full of international competition from the first jump ball to the last jump shot. Whether it's four on three or three on two - the action is fast and furious. And there are no favorites in this demanding play. You'll be called for double dribbling, cheered for every slam-dunk and carried off the court for making the winning free throw. But so will your opponent. So go for it. Your tough offense can put a "fast break" in the opposing team's stride while your defense remains solid as a rock. But think fast - because two can play at this game - and only one can win! -

Finally, it's here! The basketball game you've dreamed of. The first home game with 5 on 5, full court, board-banging action. A contest with graphics so real, they'll knock your high-tops off. Ready to captain your team to the title, you bolt into the arena with electricity in your fingers and ice in your veins. Intensity builds. The crowd roars. The game is yours to win or lose. But to win you'll need speed in the lane, touch for three-pointers, muscle to power past picks, and the skill to crash the glass. And, if you break free underneath - watch out! Because now you can power home a rim-rockin' slam! So pull up your shorts and take a deep breath. It's crunch time. Time to show your stuff! -

From the source article at... http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=32605 For years people have been yearning for an Arcade mod of NBA Jam TE, and those people will have to keep waiting. But user Ponlork is bringing that dream one step closer to reality with his NBA Jam 21 mod for the PlayStation 1 which is the closest you'll get to the Arcade experience at home. Other than the Arcade version of course. Rather than being stuck in development hell for years, Ponlork opted to go for the incremental approach of releasing updates periodically until the ultimate goal of replacing the entire roster with today’s NBA Players is complete. Version 1.1 adds 15 new players into the mix (10 active, 2 legends, and 3 secret characters). These players consist of Lebron James, Nikola Jokic, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, Bradley Beal, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, Luka Doncic, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, The Incredible Hulk, Cyberpunk and Snoop Dogg. The full 2021 NBA All-Star starting lineup is featured! What separates this mod from other NBA Jam mods before it is that all the players have distinction. Every player has their own unique head sprites and the resolution is large enough to recognize the faces. The announcer calls each player by name, there's varying skin tone palettes, and there's a sprite scaling feature that is able to resize the players which gives it a extra level of depth. In addition to that, NBA Jam 21 restores a lost feature that was disabled due to pressure from Congress to minimize videogame violence in the early 90s. If you're familiar with the slang term "Posterized", it's a term used for when a player gets dunked on so emphatically that he is sent tumbling to the floor. This falling effect along with the backboard shattering were originally in the game but were eventually removed. The Posterized feature is fully restored and the author is hopeful to one day restore the backboard glass shattering effect too. Although it's still early, it's exciting to see what's coming down the pipeline. Boom Shakalaka! Visit the project page here: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/5700/ There's also a trailer that slaps.
